Kodiaks Fall 2005 Hockey Season Starting Well, unless you live in a hole in the ground, or have been kicked off the team, you probably have been receiving emails from Cap'n Andy regarding the start of the Fall 2005 season of hockey. The Kodiaks are entered in the Sunday Night "C League" at Lakeshore Hockey Arena, and the season starts this Sunday, Sept 18th. The roster has changed a lot recently with the addition of the Falnigan or Flanigen clan. Depending on what way Andy decides to spell it. Either way there's about 10 of them on the team now, so keep an eye out on the ice. That guy you crash into, he's probably a Flanigan. Also, Mike Marchioli and Justin Boggs are too P-Wipped to be playing with us this season. The schedule is up on the Lakeshore web site, and on this site too. In addition, this page will no longer be covering the Wednesday night Kodiaks, as the team is now called The Wreckers or something like that and has had even more lineup changes than we have had. (I don't think there is any truth to the rumors that their jerseys are orange construction cones.) The fee for this season is $225 I believe, and it includes a 25th Anniversary Jersey, socks, and a souvenier. Pay on the first night, and get a towell plus a spin on the prize wheel. Lets have fun this season guys. Enjoy it. Hockey's Back! |

Kodiaks Having Fun In The Sun In case you haven't noticed, not much is going on Hockey-Wise these days. In fact, most of you have probably heard nothing about hockey until Lakeshore came calling a few weeks ago. The Kodiaks are not entering a team for the 2 month summer league that starts in August. If you wish to play, you must join a team on your own. Captain Andy LaPietra highly recommends that you join a team and get in some extra skating before the Fall League starts. He expects everyone to be in tip-top shape for the try-outs he will be having to fill the Sunday Night Team. Need to refresh your hockey skills after a summer of excessive golfing and inebriation? Check out this link, and learn to play hockey all over again... The right way. http://nhl.com/laceemup/howtoplay/offense.html In other news, no, you haven't missed the Kodiaks Golf Tournament. We just haven't had one yet. Its been a busy summer, we hope to have at least one tournament in the next few months. Here's an interesting "trailer" for an amusing hockey TV show. Would you watch? Funnier than some of the crap that's on TV now. Check out the link and give the guy a chance. Thanks to Mike Muller for the link. http://www.zoomcom.ca/beerleague/ Windows Media required, but Hey! Its free! Ohh, and no, Andy is not having try outs for Sunday night, if you don't know his policy by now, I feel sorry for you. |

Kodiaks Eliminated in Playoff Finals The Sunday night Kodiaks where eliminated in the Finals by the Jackals. The best of three series was over after just two games. The Kodiaks lost the first game 1 - 4 (empty net goal), and the second game 2 - 5. Phil Lapietra was not impressed.
Also, we have our Kodiaks Winter 04-05 Season Photo And the Kodiaks fan page has been updated as well. |

Wednesday Kodiaks Win Championship! The Wednesday Night Kodiaks used strategic playing throughout the hockey season to position themselves in prime location for the playoffs. The Kodiaks did not win a game all season. Sometimes losing by as many as 8 goals, sometimes losing by one, or even tying in overtime. One began to wonder if the Kodiaks had a little bit of that "Curse of the Bambino" within themselves. Things never did seem to go right for the Kodiaks. They lost a total of 5 games by a single goal. Often leading deep into the third period only to have their hopes crushed by a late game tying goal. And then on to overtime where the heartbreak continued with an overtime loss, or if they were "lucky" a tie.
The bad fortune carried on into the health of the team as midway through the year Justin Boggs was lost for the season with a wrist injury. Heading into the playoffs Larry broke his ankle on an awkward first shift when he caught his skate in a rut on the always smooth Lakeshore Ice. Derek Henderson was called away on business trips leaving the Kodiaks with one fewer center. Add to that a defense man that always showed up late, an inebriated Puerto Rican winger, and a captain nicknamed "tumbleweed" and this was a team about to hit rock bottom. The Kodiaks headed into the playoffs winless and in last place. This guaranteed the team a single playoff series against their rivals the Beavers. The teams were familiar with each other as they had played 3 times this season. The result was 1 Beaver victory and 2 ties. What cruel fate would the playoffs bring? We would soon find out. Game one saw the Kodiaks rocket to a 4-0 first period lead, and push on to a 8-3 victory. Both Imre "offsides" Knausz, and John Clark scored Hat Tricks. And not those "Gordie Howe" Hat tricks that Lapietra's always talking about. These were bona fide 3 goal hat tricks. What could the victory be attributed to? Good coaching? A full bench? A sprinkle of caffeine into that delicious West Side Water Sam brings to every game? No, it must have been something else. Imre played the game without one contact. Was he a one eyed wonder? Or maybe it was the hockey socks he borrowed from Dave Eschmann. And what motivated John? Was it the fact his family came to the game? The absence of his arch nemesis Tom, who was away at the Amerks game? Who's to say... who's to say. In an even more odd twist, the other two goals were scored by defense man Dave Drew, and none other than the crazy Puerto Rican Josean "the Pussy Cat" Alvarez. And with that the Kodiaks had their first win of the season and a 1-0 lead in the best of three playoffs.
Game two saw the Beavers regroup and come out firing. It was a tough hard fought game. Both teams battled back and forth in the neutral zone. It was the Beavers that came out ahead on this night though. The final score ended up being a close 1-4, in favor of the Beavers. Game three was played on a Monday following the Wednesday night loss. The finals were tied at one apiece, with both teams battling for that prize of prizes. The championship T-shirt. The winners would be showered in praise, celebrate and party throughout the summer months, the losers would hang their heads in shame, perhaps never to grace the Lakeshore Ice again.
Once again the Kodiaks came out skating hard. Mike Muller scored the first goal of the game, and "Derek Henderson" scored the second on a breakaway after a face off in the Kodiaks zone. The Kodiaks were able to tally three more goals on their way to a 5-1 first period lead. The Beavers goalie was peppered with shots throughout the game from the T-Shirt hungry Kodiaks. Mike Muller scored two more goals to record a Hat Trick on the night and receive the game puck. "Derek Henderson" a.k.a. Dave Eschmann also added another off a good forwarding pass from Andy Lapietra. Jessie added a goal of his own, as did Tom Junot with his sliding shot style. In the end the Beavers rally fell short as the Kodiaks won their second game of the season 10-4. The shirts were theirs, and history had been written. |
