Kodiaks Beat Blades

Yes, even though the summer Kodiaks were lacking the Great Al Grasley, they managed to beat the Blades in an 8 - 6 scoring fest. Captain Andy LaPietra scored a goal in his return to the ice following his absence due to wimpyness the week before. Vic Hannak tallied 3 goals, and Pat, Sully, Don, and Dave all scored for the team as well.

See the box score for the June 1st as well as June 8th games. The Kodiaks are now 1 - 2 this summer.

The Magic Helmet

Is this the right helmet for you?How many times have you been skating down the ice only to get beaned by the puck as your moving down the ice. Let's temporarily forget about the fact that you should've had your head up with your stick on the ice and hypothesize about what could happen if you don't have a good helmet.

Read the whole story in this update of Andy's Coaches Corner: "The Magical Helmet".

Who Own Da Chiefs? Not the Kodiaks...

Scott StevensThe Kodiaks lost to their old rival the Southside Chiefs on Sunday night. The score was a disappointing 8 - 0, with lots of running time in the third period. Despite the poor showing on the scoreboard, the Kodiaks did play quite well. Larry and Pat led a strong power play unit. The Kodiaks had lots of chances down low. Both Dave Eschmann and Larry had shots ring of the post. The Kodiaks just couldn't find the back of the net.

Sam Mingolelli started the game strong and was very aggressive in the offensive zone. Mike Marchioli got little scoring support as he was peppered with shots throughout the game.

Acting Captain, Dave Eschmann, was unable to juggle the lines and find the scoring punch. According to locker room post-game banter, the highlight of the night was Dave Eschmann's Scott Stevens-esque hit on a Chiefs player with his head down. "The best hit I've ever seen" Mike The Goalie Marchioli commented after the game. "He had his head down and never saw you coming". Despite denying he intentionally laid down the hit, the locker room came to an agreement, that the feature play was a direct attempt to inspire the team.

Unfortunately, the Kodiaks came up short. A more detailed story may be coming soon...

Kodiaks lose tough game to The Greyhounds

Don't try this at home. The Kodiaks lost their fourth game of the season to the division leader Greyhounds on Sunday. Don Stauffer got the Kodiaks on the board midway through the first period. The Kodiaks led 1 - 0 at the end of 1 period of play.

In the second, the Greyhounds rebounded and scored a goal of their own to tie the game up at 1-1. Justin was solid in goal, and the Kodiaks offense was clicking, but the Greyhounds goaltending was outstanding.

In the third period, the Kodiaks finally caved and gave up 4 more goals. Despite the 1-5 loss, the Kodiaks played a good game. There were very few penalties and the game was both fast paced and exciting. We look forward to playing them again.

Eric Zimmerman played for the first time this season, and cooled down the Kodiaks players with some ice cold Labatt Blue's before and after the game.

Turnout at the bar was light after the game, but everyone had a good time, and decided to call it a night.... "Save Me Jebus"

No Game this Sunday (June 29th).
