NEW SEASON  Posted: January 1st, 2005

New Season Starts Now!

The new season begins this week for both teams. Remember to bring a check to the first game. For the Sunday night team, the first game is at 9:15pm on Sunday January 2nd. Andy said we are calling ourselves the Kodiaks this season.

For the Wednesday night team, Andy said the first game is actually on a Friday this week. Be sure to have your money ready.

Kodiaks Start Of Season The Right Way

The Sunday Night Kodiaks started off the season right by winning their first game against the R&S Auto Team. The Kodiaks/Strap Tragedy Team improved their record against R&S Auto to 2 - 1 in only 3 meetings. The Kodiaks dominated much of the game, and the game was never much in doubt. We out hustled, out passed, and out scored the team on this night.

Future Kodiaks Fans?

That's not to say the schedule won't get much harder this year. With only 10 teams this season, the Kodiaks have got their work cut out for them. A quick scan of the previous seasons results shows that the Kodiaks have only posted wins against 3 of the 9 teams we will face. Its gonna be a tough season.

More Kodiaks Fans?

Returning for another season are Eric Sullivan and Brent Copeland. Phil LaPietra has also taken Sam "The Mangler" Mingolelli's spot and is playing part time this season. A hearty welcome goes out to Chad Griffin and Mike Marchioli's friend Rich, who is filling in for Pat "Paddy 'O" Keenan while he is on the DL.

Chad Griffin picked up what some are calling a bit of a hat trick on the night. A few goals, couple assists, and a penalty. Although the penalty was awfully lame, as it was plainly obvious the other player fell while trying to check Chad. Also, Andy LaPietra is considering retiring this season after accomplishing all he could in the first game. A short handed goal, and coaching the team to a win. "Its all down hill from here." is all andy had to say, I might as well quit now.

Next game is at 7:30pm against the Snipers.

Kodiaks Make it 2 in a Row

Wearing "Classic Kodiak" White, the Sunday night Kodiaks made it to 2 - 0 on the season with a win over the Snipers. Who, according to Mike Marchioli, had some of the old Outcasts members on their team, even though it was reported by Andy last year that they had all been "Cast Out" - get it? Andy's joke. Not mine.

Really, I Am!
"The Net Was Off..."

Regardless, the Kodiaks where able to win 5 - 2. Despite dominating at times, the game was still in doubt late in the 3rd period. With a 4 - 2 lead, the Kodiaks committed several penalties, and found themselves 2 men down at portions of the final stanza.

But the Kodiaks rallied and scored the put-away 5 - 2 goal, and the game was over. Phil Lapietra scored on a "head" level shot that ricocheted in off the top crossbar, and Rich had a great wrap around goal taken away because, apparently "The Net Was Off".

With a full line up, everyone was scrambling for ice time. I mean really guys, when was the last time we had everyone show up. Except for when Joe Mayernik came after the game had ended. I know I, and captain Andy, expect less from you, so lets not always show up so we can all get a little extra ice time in. C' mon, how 'bout it? Word is Mike will help out by not showing up this week.

How Old Am I?

So we head on to this weeks game where we play "Donny Don'ts" arch nemesis, the Jackals. Or "the yellow team" for our name challenged players. Let's try and win this one for Donny D. And as a side note, it took us 9 weeks into last season to get 2 wins. So lets keep up the good work.

And lets not forget it was almost a year ago when Joe Namath made this incomplete pass to sideline reporter Suzy Kolbert...

'cause Pennington's a passer, not a thrower... right...

Love that guy screaming "YEAHHH!!!!!" at the end there too.

Kodiaks Still On A Roll

The Wednesday night Kodiaks continued their strong play by winning their third game of the season 2 - 1 against Donny's arch nemesis, the Jackals. The Kodiaks were without the services of Mike Marchioli, Justin, Mark, Eric, and Rich, but were still able to win a hard fought game.

I think Ed, Derek, and Matt Glanville all combined on a give and go to score the teams first goal, and Phil LaPietra scored on a slapper two put the Kodiaks ahead in the second period. I came across this old paper I had, and felt it was appropriate...

I'm Hanging on to this Edition
I found this in a pile of old papers

Seriously though, it was a good, clean, hard fought game. There were no penalties, and it was good to post that "W" versus a team we hadn't beaten before.

Now I would like to take this time to address a disturbing trend in our scores over the past three games. If you will consult the results page, you will notice that the Kodiaks won their first game by a score of 10 - 2. The next win was only 5 - 2. But the next win, a mere 2 - 1. If this disturbing trend continues, it will be a rough outing on the 23rd. Lets hope we don't have an "Horrible Accident" on Sunday, OK boys?

Kodiaks Lose

Kodiaks LogoBoth the Sunday and Wednesday Night Kodiaks lost games this week. It marked the first time both teams had gone winless so far this season.

The Sunday night team lost to the Blue Room. Playing with only 9 skaters, it was going to be a tough game, and the Kodaiks just couldn't pull out a win. The Kodiaks record now stands at 3 - 1. Best wishes to Tom Glanville and a speedy recovery.

The Wednesday night team lost a heartbreaker. Going into the third period tied 1 - 1, the Bruins eventually got the better of the Kodiaks. Their record now stands at 0 - 3 - 1.

Finally a Kodiak's Win
on Sunday Night

The Sunday Night Kodiaks team was the first of the two struggling teams to scrape out a win in February.

According to sources at the game, it was all according to Andy moving Mark Kinslow up from defense to offense.

It was a tough month for both Kodiak teams in February. Injuries and illnesses kept attendance down. A tricky schedule with multiple late games, Friday games, Saturday night games, and a variety of other confusing developments (like Andy's infatuation with Condy Rice) have contributed to one hell of a confusing month.

Does this make me look cold?
Hey, I'm standing on ice, give me a break!

Who Looks Colder?

Lets try and get focused again, and make March a month to remember. The Sunday Night Kodiaks are scheduled to be playing in the upper division as part of a 6 team split. The lower 4 teams will battle it out for that "other shirt" we used to win.

Hey, don't seem so shocked, its called body paint, and its considered art. Above pictures courtesy of the Associated Press.
